A toddler was left with two broken legs after being hit by a regional daily delivery van.
The three-year-old girl was treated in hospital after being struck by the Liverpool Echo delivery van last Friday.
The 42-year-old driver of the van, which was delivering copies of the newspaper to retailers, stopped at the scene to assist officers in the aftermath of the incident.
Merseyside Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash.
The force’s roads policing unit carried out enquiries at the scene and CCTV is being sought to determine exactly what happened.
The girl was taken to the city’s Alder Hey Hospital, pictured above.
In a piece on the Echo’s website, editor Alastair Machray said: “My thoughts and the thoughts of my staff are with the little girl and her family.”
The incident happened at 9.30am last Friday morning in a pedestrianised area of Huyton, in Liverpool.
Literally a breaking news story. Good luck to the toddler and get better soon.

No room for a joke here Adrian.

Just a minor detail but wouldn’t a crash refer to a vehicle hitting another or a static object such as a tree and not a person? A better word might have been ‘accident.’

Former journo, saying ‘accident’ prejudges any investigation which might find otherwise.
Technically the baby and van were ‘in collision’.

Any news that the toddler is going to make a full recovery?

Also broke his legs *after* being hit? Surely *when*. Otherwise the van wasn’t involved in the injury.
