Regional journalist goes bananas in day-long eating challenge

banana-1JPGA regional daily journalist ate 32 bananas in a day to test the effectiveness of a new diet which requires participants to eat the fruit – and nothing else.

Katie Butler, city centre blogger at the Manchester Evening News, wrote about her experience of the challenge as well as documenting on video for the newspaper’s website.

Katie, pictured above left during the challenge, had discovered a website called 30 Bananas A Day, which has attracted almost 30,000 people to attempt the diet.

However Katie, who has been a vegan for three years, said she wouldn’t do it every day despite managing to munch her way through 32 bananas in a single day.

She said: “I did the challenge to show how easy it is to have fruit meals and feel fully satisfied. It’s also to show people the improvements in my health and fitness since becoming vegan.

“There are loads vegan options now – so you don’t just have to eat bananas. Veganism is the best thing for our health and for the animals and the planet.

“Bananas make up a large part of my diet anyway so eating 32 in a day wasn’t too much of a challenge.

“It honestly makes you feel great, happy, energised and satisfied. And no, I never get sick of bananas.”

It must have been a slow news day on the city centre blogging beat (whatever that is?).
