Press photographer dies covering Andy Murray’s wedding rehearsal

Tributes have been paid to a press photographer who collapsed while covering a rehearsal for the wedding of tennis star Andy Murray.

Gordon Jack, a former staffer with the Daily Record who went on to launch his own photographic agency, died on Saturday as Murray tied the knot with long-term partner Kim Sears.

The 47-year-old had been been taken to hospital the previous day after collapsing while taking pictures of Murray outside Dunblane Cathedral as he arrived for the rehearsal.

Gordon, described by his former picture editor at the Record as an “outstanding photographer,” is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was among those who paid tribute to the father-of-three from Linlithglow, West Lothian.

She tweeted: “Totally devastated to hear about the death of Gordon Jack. A lovely man and a great photographer. My thoughts with his family & colleagues.”

Daily Record picture editor Alasdair Baird said: “Gordon was an outstanding photographer and journalist who was loved and respected in equal measure by his colleagues.

“He was equally comfortable covering a warzone or a fashion shoot. His passing is a great loss to our industry and he will be sorely missed by all that knew him.”

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Scotland tweeted: “Our condolences to the wife and children of Gordon Jack who has died after a fall at Dunblane Cathedral covering Andy Murray’s wedding.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service and a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crew from Dunblane attended the cathedral at around 4.38pm on Friday afternoon.

Gordon, who ran a picture agency in West Lothian, was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert but died on Saturday. He leaves a wife and three children.
