Journalism college to launch new broadcast module

A journalism college is to offer a module in broadcast journalism for the first time following a partnership with a local TV station.

Sheffield College is linking up with Sheffield Live TV in a bid to improve employment opportunities for its students.

It is launching broadcast journalism as a a specialist option on its NCTJ-accredited Diploma in Journalism course.

Mandatory units for the diploma – including reporting, shorthand, media law and public affairs – will remain the same.

Matthew Neale, head of media and humanities at Norton campus, where the course is run, said: “This is an exciting new development which will be of huge benefit to student journalists by opening up a variety of career paths for them.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Sheffield Live TV. Journalists need a variety of skills to operate in today’s multimedia newsrooms and this course will provide them with the expertise they need.”
