Daily’s website to include TV catch-up service

A Scottish daily will feature a TV catch-up service on its website after a “unique digital partnership” was formed.

The Daily Record and STV have formed a deal to bring the STV Player to the newspaper’s digital audience on desktop, mobile and tablet.

The move means people living within the STV’s licence area in Scotland can catch up with programmes such as The X Factor, Downton Abbey and Coronation Street alongside the Record’s online content.

Trinity Mirror announced the partnership and said it was being supported by an advertising campaign in the Daily Record, Sunday Mail and 20 other Media Scotland titles.

Allan Rennie, editor-in-chief of Media Scotland, said: “This is an innovative digital partnership that brings together the best of the Daily Record with the best of STV.

“We are two iconic Scottish companies with a lot in common and this partnership will reinforce our positions as the nation’s leading publisher and broadcaster.

“Our readers and the STV audience get the best of both worlds – brilliant programmes and lots of previews, interviews and gossip.”

Bobby Hain, director of channels at STV, added: “This exciting deal continues to strengthen STV’s multi-channel offering and reinforces our commitment to make our content widely available to our audience, free of charge.

“It is great that Scots can now catch up with their favourite STV programmes on the Record’s popular digital platforms.”

The Record’s desktop and mobile versions remain free to use, while tablet subscribers will pay no extra charge for the new service.
