Journalists take on half-marathon for paper’s appeal

Journalists from a regional daily took part in a half-marathon to raise money for their paper’s fundraising appeal.

The team from the Nottingham Post was attempting to raise £1,000 towards their ‘Room to Breathe’ campaign by running the Robin Hood Half Marathon on Sunday.

The campaign was launched earlier this year to raise £60,000 to pay for one of the rooms in a new £6.6m unit for cystic fibrosis patients at Nottingham’s City Hospital.

Chief photographer Jemma Cox, health correspondent Dominic Howell and reporter Winnie Agbonlahor, pictured below, all signed up for the challenge, despite never having run a half-marathon before.

The Post’s campaign has so far raised more than £10,000 thanks to the efforts of its readers.

Dominic said: “Although it has been a tremendous effort so far, we still have a long way to go. We want to do our bit to make this wonderful cause a reality.”

The £6.6m centre will dramatically increase the hospital’s capacity for treating patients with the cystic fibrosis.

It will have the capacity to treat 250 patients each year, while the hospital currently has only four beds to treat adults with the disease.
