Northants Evening Telegraph editor Jeremy Clifford has stepped in to run Sheffield daily The Star while it looks for a permanent editor.
The Johnston Press title is currently advertising for a new editor to succeed John Furbisher, who quit last month after just seven months in the role.
Meanwhile Jeremy’s deputy at the Kettering-based Telegraph, Neil Pickford, has assumed resposibility for that title.
Telegraph staff were told of the move by Jeremy in an internal memo which has been seen by HTFP.
It read: “As from Monday I have been seconded to the Sheffield Star for a short time to act in the temporary role as Editor while the newspaper goes through a recruitment process for a permanent replacement.
“During that time Neil Pickford will become the acting Editor of the Evening Telegraph with full responsibility for all decisions.
“We have secured the services of Alex Blackwell, the deputy editor of the Harborough Mail, to provide support to Neil and Neil Burkett, and he will come to the paper as acting assistant editor. He will start on Thursday.”
A Johnston Press spokesperson declined to comment on the move.
Go Picky!

Agree this is a good appointment by the Star, even if it’s only a temporary one

I very much look forward to reading all the “real people” comments of the people of Sheffield tacked onto the end of stories

Agreed Missy. What people really want to know is Mrs Miggins’ opinion about the big issues, forget the decision makers themselves…utter nonsense. Also, don’t expect to see much crime in the paper any more (or indeed any stories of real interest) – just lots of I Love Sheffield fluff and an ego-maniac on a bright red sofa…
