A journalist who caused a worldwide political storm when she published an off-the-record quote from one of Barack Obama’s staff has been shortlisted for two Scottish journalism awards.
The Scotman’s Gerri Peev made headlines across the planet when she quoted Obama’s foreign policy advisor Samantha Power calling Hillary Clinton a “monster” despite her immediately stating the comment was not for publication.
Gerri could take home scoop of the year and political journalist of the year in the 30th annual Scottish Press Awards, organised by the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society.
Mike Farrell, from the Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter, is up against hacks from big regional and national titles in the young journalist of the year category.
And his paper is also up against the nationals for the journalist team of the year prize for their coverage of two superbug deaths at a local hospital.
The awards ceremony takes places in Glasgow in 23 April. The full shortlist is:
