Leicester Mercury staff are the latest volunteers to step forward for the paper’s We Need You! Challenge.

The paper threw down the gauntlet for readers to fill 100 of the most pressing volunteering vacancies around the city and county.

Dozens have now signed up as drivers and gardeners for the elderly, befrienders and support workers.

And now eight members of the Mercury’s own staff have stepped forward too.

Among them are training manager Maria Diana, the editor’s PA Melissa Harris and display advertising territory manager Nadine Kirby.

A full list of vacancies the paper is hoping to fill is being carried at the newspaper’s online Beehive Community Network.
