Sad farewell to Kent reporter

Tributes have been paid to a former chief reporter in Kent who has died at the age of 61.

Nicholas Conway, who worked for the Tonbridge Courier, finally lost his battle against bilateral pneumonia after spending five weeks in intensive care at the Kent and Sussex Hospital.

Mr Conway was born in Eastbourne and joined the Royal Marines before working for the Courier between 1977 and 1982.

He left the paper to work in local politics and he involved himself in a number of societies including the British Association of Industrial Editors.

Former Courier editor Frank Chapman said: “Nick did not work for us very long but he had the thing most valuable to journalists of being able to get on well with everybody.”

Mr Conway leaves a widow, Susan, and two sons, Alexander and Guy.
