Post blow for Euro

Only five per cent of Yorkshire people are backing the Euro – according to a phone poll by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The figures showed 95 per cent (446 calls) voting against the Euro, echoing Denmark’s rejection of the European currency last week, an event the paper used as the prompt for its poll.

Yorkshire is at the heart of overwhelming feeling – both for and against – over the controversial currency, which the Government has yet to make a decision on adopting.

The Evening Post revealed that Yorkshire multi-millionaire and leading Euro-sceptic Paul Sykes secretly bankrolled the successful Danish campaign against the single currency.

He provided £500,000 to pay for 150 full-page advertisements in the Danish press during the final days leading up to the referendum.
