Former South Wales Argus sports editor and assistant editor Willis Huntley has died, aged 92.
He worked there until the 1970s and supplied a weekly article for years after his retirement.
His death followed deteriorating health since before Christmas.
Ken Griffin, who edited the Argus from 1970 to 1986 said: “He was a man of strong opinion and we often argued, sometimes for a long time.
“Much later when I became editor and made him assistant editor, we still argued fiercely about many things – from politics to sport to reporting, but he never held a grudge and after retirement we often met and shared memories.”
Newport Rugby Football Club chairman David Watkins said: “He was a great character, a sound journalist and he will be missed.
“He dealt with things in a fair way, what more could you ask for?”
