Tory leader Michael Howard will be the guest speaker at the West of Scotland Newspaper Press Fund lunch next month.
He will entertain an audience of media moguls and business leaders at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow on October 14.


Scotland’s largest independently funded talking newspaper group, Cue and Review, has won a six-figure cash boost from Bank of Scotland Community Banking and Social Investment Scotland.
The group currently transcribes 22 publications onto cassettes for the visually impaired. It plans to use the money to buy its rented premises along with 15 other units which it will rent out, providing additional income.


Birmingham Evening Mail columnist Adrian Goldberg has been named one of the BBC’s top talents.
The journalist also presents BBC WM’s breakfast show and has been shortlisted for the Frank Gillard Awards for local radio.


BBC deputy director general Mark Byford has joined the list of speakers for next month’s Society of Editors annual conference in Newcastle, along with Kevin Marsh, editor of the Today programme, Tim Suter of Ofcom and Yorkshire post feature writer Anila Baig, who joins The Sun this month.
The three-day conference will take place between October 17 and 19.


The Swindon Evening Advertiser is considering a move from its Victoria Road offices.
The historic building is in need of modernisation, and to decide whether to embark on a major refurbishment or move elsewhere, the paper has submitted a planning application to convert its offices into flats to help it assess how much the land is worth.

Organised by the Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma, Iraq and War Trauma – fighting, living, reporting and governing, will be held on Tuesday at the Frontline Club in London.
