New book for Mercury writer

The Leicester Mercury’s Hajra Makda is hoping to tickle taste buds while also dispelling a few myths about Asian food with her new book.

Hajra, food writer for the paper, says many people think Asian sweets and deserts are sticky and heavy.

She is hoping her book, Sweet ‘n’ Easy, which is full of traditional Asian deserts will prove them wrong.

She said: “Recipes are handed down through generations. I get lots of ideas from other people and from my travels. I always try to reach out for something different.”

Hajra started work on the book about 18 months ago, shortly after her first book, Spice ‘n’ Easy.
