Names trawl reveals the unusual

The most popular babies’ names for 2000 have been identified by the North Devon Journal – after the newspaper surveyed a year of birth announcements.

The survey revealed a mixture of traditional, unusual, Biblical and Celtic names, with Jack, Lucy and Sophie topping the list.

Alongside pop star names such as Britney, Courtney and Harrison, names like Summer, Jaiden, Verren, Freya, Maia and Keela made an appearance – ensuring the children will have to spell out their names over the phone for the rest of their lives!

The survey revealed that the other most popular names for babies were Rebecca, Charlotte, Emily and Abigail, as well as Oliver, James, Henry and Lewis.
