Mercury book records Filberts' final season

The highs and lows of Leicester City’s final season at Filbert Street have been captured in a new book.

Written by Leicester Mercury journalist Jeremy Clay, Leicester ‘Til We Die features behind-the-scenes photographs and stories from the turbulent final season at Filbert Street, home to the club for 111 years.

Jeremy, who is the Mercury’s assistant features editor and came up with the idea for the book, said: “The clock tower is the centre of Leicester, but Filbert Street was its heart for 111 years and we had to mark its passing properly.

“It was a long, hard season for Leicester, but that became the book’s strength. The book is about the people at the club and not about the results.

“I really do think we’ve captured the flavour of the ground.”

Throughout the season Jeremy worked on the book together with Mercury photographers Andy Baker, Jason Senior and Sarah Melton and designer Kevin Hughes.

It was officially launched at Leicester’s New Walk Museum, which is home to an exhibition of photographs from the book until August 11.

  • Leicester ‘Til We Die is published jointly by the Mercury and Leicester City, and costs £14.99.
