Thousands of people around the country are gearing up to show their support for England in the World Cup – but one Liverpool Echo reporter has come up with a more unusual way of supporting the team than just cheering them on.

Formerly known as Scott Faulkner, the football-mad news reporter has changed his name by deed poll to Scott Goran Eriksson!

He said: “After 26 years as plain Scott Faulkner, from Stourbridge, I’ve switched my surname to Goran Eriksson by deed poll, to show my support for Our Boys ahead of England’s vital first match against Sweden on June 2.

“Most people think I’m mad, but Sven’s a hero of mine. He’s probably the best manager we’ve had since Sir Alf Ramsey.

“Women admire Sven’s intelligence and calmness under pressure – so I hope some of his qualities rub off on me.”

Scott (pictured) was able to officially change his name with the help of a solicitor, who prepared a deed of declaration and witnessed the signature formalising his change of name.

Scott said: “After a few beers one of my friends suggested that I change my name to Goran Eriksson as a mark of respect.

“It’s a permanent thing unless I choose to change it back – which I may or may not do.

“It depends on how we do. If England were to win the World Cup then it would be an honour to have the name.

“But if we were to go out in the first round I might have to review my options.”
