The Leamington Courier is to challenge an order banning identification of a teenager who has already been named and pictured in the paper.

Magistrates have imposed a ‘no naming’ order to protect a 15-year-old serving a custodial sentence for breaching the conditions of his anti social behaviour order.

The ruling was made in an adult court on June 5 after the boy’s solicitor argued it would not be in his interests for his identity to be made public.

The prosecuting solicitor, in line with the wishes of Warwickshire Police, opposed the bid.

But magistrates have now ordered that his identity should be made secret after agreeing that the boy, who has previously had his name and picture in the Courier, has been unfairly affected by publicity.

The application, to vary the conditions of the boy’s ASBO ahead of his release by changing an exclusion area and non-association order, is due to be heard today.
