Journal carnival team scoops prize

The Lowestoft Journal entered into the town’s carnival spirit… and even managed to win a prize for its efforts.

Members of staff from editorial and advertising at the Archant Norfolk title were handed the prestigious Sunrise Coast Carnival Shield for their efforts in embracing the European theme.

Mannequins in traditional dress from various countries were decorated with faces from each department.

Journal editor Russell Cook was an Austrian, complete with lederhosen, while sports reporter Mark Boggis was transformed into a French onion seller.

Russell said: “It was a great way for us to help promote the brand of the paper and tell people a bit more about us … and let them know that there would be photos of the parade in the newspaper.”

  • Carnival capers
  • Children from Dusmagrik’s Young People’s Dance Company, in Gorleston, joined the team on the float dressed as Spanish senoritas and even an England football player and flags and bunting adorned the lorry.

The float invited crowds lining the streets to “Meet The J Team” and flyers promoting The Journal were handed out while money was collected for Lowestoft Hospital.
