Editor's job for Outterside

Nic Outterside is leaving the Aberdeen Press and Journal to edit a weekly newspaper in Scotland.

Mr Outterside (44), chief investigative reporter with the P&J since last year, will take up his post as editor of the Buchan Observer on June 19. He succeeds George Hutchinson, who has retired.

This will be his third spell in charge of a paper. He was editor of the Argyllshire Advertiser from 1990-92 and editor-in-chief of the Galloway Gazette from 1998-99. He has also worked for the Oban Times, The Scotsman, the Sunday Sun and The Herald.

Richard Thomson, group managing editor of Community Media Ltd, which owns the Buchan Observer, said: “Nic was an outstanding candidate for the editorship of the Buchan Observer, having previous experience of editing a Scottish newspaper at the heart of its community, as well as being an award-winning reporter with The Scotsman and the Sunday Sun.”

“I’m confident he can take the title, which has an 82% penetration in its circulation area, to new heights.”
