Papers give £2,000 to encourage readers

An appeal to raise £100,000 for victims of the Welsh steelworks blast in November is expected to meet its target by the end of March.

The South Wales Evening Post and Port Talbot Courier appeal has been boosted with the papers themselves handing over an extra £2,000 to encourage readers to do the same.

The appeal board has already handed £30,000 to the victims of the tragedy and their families, following on from the £23,500 paid out before Christmas.

Three men died as a result of the explosion at port Talbot and another 12 were injured. One man is still in hospital and the appeal will donate £25,000 to the burns unit at Morrison Hospital.
