Co-op divi boosts appeal

The Ipswich Evening Star has seen its Suffolk Accident Rescue Service Campaign boosted by shoppers at the Co-op.

The Co-op’s “divi number donation” raised £5,000 for the campaign, bringing the total raised to £17,000.

The money – along with a previous donation of £1,000 from the Ipswich and Norwich Co-operative Society – will be spent on lifesaving equipment.

Colin French, administrator for SARS said: “We exist purely on the goodwill of the people of Suffolk and this shows their generosity.”

The special divi account set up by the Co-op meant people could use their own account numbers or quote ‘977’ when purchasing their goods. Money has been raised for Evening Star appeals in the same way in the past.

Nigel Pickover, editor of the Star said: “It is fantastic. It just goes to show how big-hearted the people of Suffolk are. It will go a long way to saving lives.”
