The successful 11-11-11 campaign has been revived by the Leicester Mercury to honour service people who died for their country.

The campaign last year encouraged many firms in Leicestershire and Rutland to allow staff to fall silent for two minutes to formally mark Armistice Day at the moment the guns fell silent.

Individuals have also been targeted by the campaign, which is backed by veterans from both World Wars.

This year, Armistice Day coincides with Remembrance Sunday on November 11 when an estimated 45m people around the country are expected to observe a two minute silence.

The Mercury’s campaign has been high profile for the last two years and last year led a record number of businesses, organisations and individuals to take part.

Shopping centres, offices and public areas got involved as the public paid their respects.

And even though many of these places will be closed this year on the November 11, the paper is pledging to urge hundreds of groups to once again sign its roll of honour.
