Big Mac treat for homeless

The homeless are to benefit from a fast-food chain’s special offer – thanks to a brainwave by a Derby Evening Telegraph reader.

McDonalds is currently running a buy-one-get-one-free promotion on a different item each day.

Telegraph reader, Tony Williams, wrote to the paper to suggest donating the “free” food from McDonalds to the homeless.

This promoted the Telegraph to suggest the idea to McDonalds, and now two restaurants in Derby have agreed to put the scheme into place.

During the promotion, customers will now be able to sign a form donating their free items.

Homeless people will then be invited to an evening party to share the donated food, along with a portion of fries and a drink.

“I noticed that McDonalds was running the buy-one-get-one-free campaign,” said Tony.

“And thought – wouldn’t it be a great gesture if people could be given the opportunity of giving the free meal to someone living on the streets?

“This would ensure that they at least had one good meal during the day.”
