'All options open' in long-running dispute

National Union of Journalists members at Newsquest’s Bolton and Bury titles are considering all their options following talks between NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear and company management.

Members at the Bolton Evening News, Bolton Journal, Bury Times, Bury Journal, Leigh Journal and Prestwich & Whitefield Guide are currently out on an “indefinite” strike, which began on April 22.

And following talks between Jeremy Dear and company management yesterday, members plan to meet on Friday to discuss the latest proposals and decide on the best way forward.

Meanwhile NUJ members at Newsquest in Bradford could be about to embark on their own indefinite strike.

Members at the Telegraph & Argus, Keighley News, Ilkley Gazette, Craven Herald and Wharfedale Observer have taken part in 31 days of strike action so far this year, most recently on May 1 and 2.

There has been a break in industrial action there while talks between the NUJ and company management have continued, but if an agreement is not reached this week members say they could begin an indefinite strike from May 26.
