Braemar article wins journalism award

The winner of a Scottish journalism award has been announced as Stuart Humble at a presentation at The Robert Gordon University.

The Robert Smith Award went to the 20-year-old from Banchory, who wrote a piece about a father and son getting ready to compete at the Braemar Gathering.

Craig Jennings, (20), from Peterhead, and Jillian Burns, (21), of Aberdeen were joint runners-up.

As winner of the award, Stuart will be invited to work at this year’s Braemer Gathering alongside the event’s press officers.

The award was introduced by the Braemar Royal Highland Society and the Robert Gordon University to honour North-east Scotland journalist, Robert Smith.

It was open to corporate communications and publishing studies students from the university.

Robert said: “The standard was very high. Stuart has written an interesting story about a father and son training for the gathering.

“I felt it was written by someone with a feel for what makes a good newspaper story.”
