Job Description

Role: Senior Clinical Editor
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £36,165 - £40,623
Closing date: 24 September 2021
Location: RCN HQ Central London - Initially the successful candidate will be required to work from home as a COVID-19 organisation measure which will be regularly reviewed.

Interviews and assessment week: tba

RCNi supports the work-life balance of our staff through our SMART Working policy outlining our approach to agile and flexible working.

RCNi, publisher of Nursing Standard and a range of other journals and learning resources for the nursing workforce, is looking for a Senior Clinical Editor to join our award-winning team.

You will help us maintain and enhance the quality of our peer-reviewed content online and in print, and in turn support the nursing team to improve outcomes for those under their care.

This is a great opportunity to join an ambitious team at a time when healthcare issues have never been more prominent on the national agenda and delivering insightful, inspiring and informative content has never been more important to our audience.

Nursing Standard was this year recognised as a ‘shining example of excellence in the industry’, receiving the coveted PPA Chairman’s Award for its COVID-19 content, campaigning and product development.

To help us continue this proud record, you will have experience of substantial editing and rewriting, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for improving the quality of nursing care in the UK and around the world.

Knowledge of nursing or healthcare is desirable but not essential. More important is a willingness to learn, to read around clinical topics to develop confidence and competence in scientific editing. Your organisational and time management skills will be central to meeting deadlines and managing workflow.

This is not a management position, but ideally you will have some experience of managing others or leading a team.

RCNi has an office in central London but fully supports agile and flexible working practices. Please note, the role will initially involve remote working while pandemic restrictions are in place. RCNi is an editorially independent subsidiary of the Royal College of Nursing, with excellent terms and conditions.

The overall aims of the role are:

  • Edit clinical articles, continuing professional development (CPD) materials, clinical resources and related content.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of issues in nursing.
  • Promote RCNi and Nursing Standard content through social media and similar platforms.
  • Liaise with staff across other departments.
  • Stand in for the Evidence & Practice Editor when required.
