|Employer:||Stranraer Free Press and Wigtownshire Advertiser|
Trainee & junior reporters
|Employment Type:||Full time|
GOT an eye for a good story, a way with words and feel for a local paper right at the heart of the community it serves?
The Stranraer and Wigtownshire Free Press has a vacancy for a reporter and would like to talk to you if you're an all-rounder interested in working in a newsy and lovely part of Scotland.
The Free Press is a paid-for weekly title based in Stranraer in gorgeous Galloway. We've recently switched to a modern tabloid format and remain committed to fighting the corner of a rural community that's crying out for a voice.
With sister magazine title Our Wigtownshire, we cover the entire spectrum of life in this corner of Scotland – and that's where you come in.
If you've a thirst for the cut-and-thrust of politics, the crime and health beats and – of course – the stories of the people of the area, then this is the place for you.
It's hard work but you'll rapidly build up an impressive portfolio of cuttings ranging from the battles over Brexit to local sport. There's the chance to get hands-on with layout and headline writing as well.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, happy operating in a small team, and able to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. A sharp news sense and ability to file clean copy are prerequisites.
Ideally, you will be a graduate in journalism or have NCTJ qualifications. But those with a passion for news and writing will also be considered.
If you think you've got what it takes to fit in, send a covering letter and your CV .
Please mention HoldtheFrontPage when applying for this role. This advert will expire on Wednesday 1st January 2020.
