An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Britain’s largest and most reputable news content provider as a Reporter.
The successful candidate will be part of a small but enthusiastic team of reporters sourcing news, picture and video stories from the East of England.
We are looking for a confident, digital-savvy reporter who loves bringing in their own material and is hungry to regularly land exclusives.
Working from home, the successful candidate will also be responsible for generating their own stories, building their own contacts in the region and fulfilling commissions from media organisations.

Our content spans everything from breaking news and human interest to health, science and virals.
We believe in real journalism; reporters, photographers and videographers who gather content on the ground and turn them into media packages which leap off the page or screen. We also work with hundreds of contributors and major publishers to licence and monetise
Alongside our core news agency operation, SWNS supplies a wide range of editorial and bespoke commission services ranging from assignments for brands to full outsource production services for publishers.
Our passion, drive and innovative business model has seen us grow exponentially over the last decade and this role reflects our continued investment in journalism.
You will be a journalist helping run our East of England operation which covers Cambridge, Suffolk, Norfolk and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire.
The role involves cultivating ‘the patch’; maintaining contacts, identifying new sources for stories, maintaining a news diary and being a point of contact for the national media.
You will also liaise with our Bristol-based editors throughout the day.
The ideal candidate must also be an experienced and confident reporter who is comfortable covering major court cases, managing major exclusives.
All applicants must have:
- NCTJ or similar qualification
- Shorthand to 100 wpm+
- Newswriting experience
- Social media content gathering skills
- Confidence and the personality to maintain a good relationship with senior national journalists.
- A sharp eye for a story and the competitive drive to develop the patch
- Ability to be well organised and to self-motivate
- A driving licence and car is preferable
