Trainee & junior reporters
|Employment Type:||Full time|
|Salary:||Dependant on Experience|
|Sector:||News and Content Agencies|
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a brand new exclusive content gathering team at the UK’s largest and more reputable independent news agency.
We are creating a new team of reporters and writers to focus solely on providing exclusive home-grown content for the biggest publishers around the world.
We are looking for a confident, switched-on writer who loves sourcing their own stories and is hungry to land exclusives every day.
Experience is desirable – but what we are really after is someone who is social-media savvy with bags of enthusiasm and a desire to write the best stories of the day.
The role is based in our Bristol HQ and will be largely office based.
Who we are
For nearly 50 years SWNS Media Group has been at the forefront of UK and international news content provision.
In that time SWNS has become the largest regional news and picture service in the UK, with over 100 editorial staff working in offices across the country and in the US.
On a daily basis, SWNS produces a newswire service comprising over 100 original pieces of copy and 1,000 photographs and videos.
This newswire provides one of the single largest sources of content for the major news publishers in the UK, US and beyond.
Our new team will pull together content from out in-house story sourcing websites, as well as other online sources.
The ideal candidate will be able to turn tips into exclusives for publishers and great stories for our own news wire.
We don’t rely on news dropping in our lap, and all our writers will also be willing and able to use social media to find stories and turn them into stories which publications around the world can use.
We have a strong ‘real life’ focus to our content. You will be writing primarily for news outlets, but should have an awareness of what makes a good feature story.
All applicants must:
- Have newswriting experience.
- Social media content gathering skills.
- Be confident and personable with the ability to quickly strike a rapport with people, particularly over the phone.
- Have a sharp eye for a story and the competitive drive to develop them.
- Be a fast learner with bags of energy who is willing to jump in at the deep end.
- Be organised and able to self-manage.
- NCTJ or similar qualification
- Driving licence
