Are you a communications professional with the ability to able to track down great stories, maintain a vast network of contacts and foster strong connections in media? Do you have a passion for science – from space missions to pioneering physics?
STFC is seeking a Press Officer to cover its core research programme and international portfolio, seeking out stories about ground-breaking discoveries by STFC-funded researchers and pioneering work carried out by UK scientists on an international stage.
STFC research aims to answer some of the greatest mysteries in science – including where did all the elements come from? How are galaxies made? Is there a hidden, fifth force of nature? We work with international partners including CERN, NASA, the European Southern Observatory, and many more in an attempt to answer these fundamental life questions.
Please be aware that this is an office-based contract, however we are trialling hybrid office-home working. We support flexible working and all working arrangements will be considered.
As the Press Officer responsible for reporting on the research and international programme for STFC, you will seek out exciting stories that showcase UK science and tell them in a way that inspires the public and interests our Government funding body.
We’re looking for a dynamic, creative, highly skilled communications professional to join our team and help tell our unique story.
To succeed in this role, you will:
- Be an excellent storyteller, with exceptional writing skills and the ability to grasp complex information and translate it into meaningful and authentic content
- Work well under pressure, with fast-moving and tight deadlines
- Be able to manage multiple projects at once, with the ability to prioritise accordingly
- Be resilient with excellent organisational skills and self-motivation
- Have the ability to quickly form robust working relationships with a diverse range of partners and contacts.
