We are on the hunt for a go getting, self-starting and enthusiastic NCTJ graduate with 100wpm shorthand to follow in the footsteps of previous successful recruits who have built a bulging portfolio of copy with us before joining Britain’s best known newspapers and magazines.
The successful candidate will be covering courts, tribunals and inquests for all the major publications on a daily basis as part of our award-winning news, pictures and features team and will get on-the-job training from one of the best court reporting experts in the business.
You should typically be getting around 20 by-lines in regional and national news publications each month and there will also be opportunities to do real life features too.
Based on the outskirts of Manchester, Cavendish Press has an unrivalled reputation for producing agenda-setting and top quality news, photographs and features in one of Britain’s busiest news patches.
No call centre/ headset office-based journalism here!
All recruits are based out in the field and will be expected to have face-to-face interaction with police, lawyers and the general public amongst others.
A minimum 100wpm shorthand in essential for our reporters to ensure accuracy and maintain our reputation for producing detailed, informative and legally compliant court copy.
Nothing less will do.
We need reporters who can think on their feet, who thrive under pressure, who will go that extra mile to land a big story or interview and work as part of a team.
You will need a great eye for a story, who will work hard to get the top stories, someone who will not be beaten by a rival and takes pride in being the best.
You will have to keep going in the face of fierce competition, possess vital people skills, win the trust of subjects and take pride in getting the best coverage for their pieces. It’s intensive work but the experience and potential long-term career prospects are great.
A full clean driving license with your own transport is preferable but not essential. All equipment and training will be provided.
