Job Description

Newsquest North London has two exciting opportunities available for a news reporter and crime reporter, covering one of the busiest patches in the UK.

Based out of our office in Watford, but working in a hybrid model, we produce the highly respected Watford Observer, along with titles in north and east London and Essex.

Crime reporter

The crime reporter position is a fantastic opportunity for someone who lives and breathes crime and court reporting to make their mark on a lively patch.

The successful candidate will be brimming with ideas on how best to report the issues relating to crime in the area, and as eager to cover a first appearance in magistrates’ court as joining the police on a raid.

You will be expected to make contacts out on the patch, as well as attend court cases, predominantly in St Albans.

The job would best suit a senior reporter, but applications from newly NCTJ-qualified reporters will be considered. A driving licence and access to a car are also essential.

News reporter

The news reporter position is suited to either a newly qualified reporter, or experienced senior reporter looking to progress their career covering a patch where there is no shortage of news.

You will be out and about making contacts and finding the stories that matter most to our readers, and then presenting them in the most attractive way online.

One day you could be attending a highly sensitive inquest, and the next presenting a Facebook Live from the opening of a new shop in Watford town centre.

Newsquest offers its employees a range of benefits and perks including various discounts on gym memberships, holidays and cinema tickets, as well as your birthday off and bonuses for hitting individual page view targets.
