PR & comms officers
|Employment Type:||Full time|
The 24-hour Thames Water Newsroom – the PR machine powering the monster Whitechapel fatberg to A-list celebrity stardom – is looking for two new team players. Our media relations officers deal with enquiries from journalists around the world on a wide range of operational issues and play a key role in communicating during operational incidents.
You will also get out, uncover and promote the great number of positive stories from all corners of the business, with £1 billion invested every year in improving service, and contribute to our in-house monthly magazine, Source.
It will be your job to translate sometimes technical information into clean, simple copy to drive proactive media coverage that engages and informs our customers – who are spread across London and the Thames Valley. One minute you could be giving a radio interview. The next, you could be crafting a line on world-famous fatbergs after a Victorian sewer visit, encouraging customers to ‘Bin it – don’t block it’. Ultimately, customers are the people you need to explain things to via the media.

We’re looking for people with outstanding written and digital communication skills who are high-energy, customer-focused and a team player. We’re looking for hard grafters who relish being thrown in at the deep end, shooting video, writing news and taking pictures, while learning about one of life’s essential services.
Salary & Information
Dependent on skills and experience, we are offering a salary between £27k & £40k, plus on-call payments)
Both roles will be based at our head office, Clearwater Court, in central Reading (two minutes walk from the station), with requirement to spend time at our London sites and operational control centre in Green Park, Reading. You will also be expected to participate in our one-in-seven-week out-of-hours press office rota.
