Features Writer (Maternity cover)
South West News Service
|Posted: Mon 6 Nov 2017||Closing Date: Wed 6 Dec 2017|
|Employer:||South West News Service|
|Salary:||Competitive with generous commission structure|
|Sector:||News and Content Agencies|
One of our Features Writers will be going on maternity leave in January 2018 (exact date TBC) so we are now looking for one of the industry’s best talents to temporarily fill their shoes.
As Britain’s largest independent press agency, South West News Service supplies words and pictures to the national newspapers and women's magazines.
We are looking for a Features Writer to join our busy news room in Bristol. You’ll need a sharp eye for a story, creative flair and a fierce competitive edge. It is preferable that candidates have 100wpm shorthand, a clean driving licence and their own car - however this is not essential for outstanding applicants. A sense of humour will also be an asset.
The responsibilities of the role include researching, sourcing and selling real-life stories to the women’s magazines including Take a Break, Closer, Chat and Woman's Own amongst others, newspaper feature sections as well as TV programmes such as This Morning and Good Morning Britain. You will be maximising our existing content, developing your own exclusive material and managing relationships with clients and publishers.
The maternity cover will begin at the beginning of January 2018 and end in approximately January 2019. However, there is a possibility that the role may be extended beyond this period.
Previous experience of local newspaper or agency journalism is preferable, however we will consider all exceptional candidates.
Most of our reporters go on to jobs on national newspapers and women's magazines within a year or two – so we need a journalist with big ambition who can hit the ground running.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected agency and work on the biggest and best stories in a highly competitive patch. We offer a competitive salary and unrivalled career prospects.
If you’re ready for the challenge, please send your application and CV via email to Features Editor, Harriet Rose-Gale - firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please mention HoldtheFrontPage when applying for this role. This advert will expire on Wednesday 6th December 2017.
