Features Editor - Food & Drink Reports
The Grocer is no ordinary business magazine. As the multi-award-winning bible of the food and drink industry, we strive to be ahead of the game on emerging consumer and shopping trends, from plant-based food to CBD, and from alcoholic seltzers to low-and-no alcohol beverages. At the same time we track and analyse key retailer and supplier moves to tackle health and obesity, address sustainability, and tap into opportunities provided by technology and new routes to market.
As a result of a promotion, we are now looking for a senior features editor to oversee our Focus On category reports. These weekly reports provide senior-level buyers with insights into key areas of food and drink – getting to the heart of the latest trends in major categories such as alcoholic drinks, bakery, confectionery, health and beauty, ready meals and so forth. You will commission and write reports on what has worked – and what hasn’t – to build a picture of these markets and to look at what the future holds.
You will also be expected, like all journalists on The Grocer, to chip in with news, blogs, interviews and other pieces of your own, to build strong industry contacts, and to represent The Grocer at key grocery events and on TV and radio, to showcase The Grocer’s expertise.
A love of food and drink, and interest in retail, supermarkets, marketing etc are preferable but not essential. What’s non negotiable is proven features writing and commissioning ability, and the editing skills to craft sometimes average content into snappy, engaging and insightful copy. You’ll also need to be organized, quick and hard working, with a decent head for figures, an understanding of how to use social media, and strong visual, graphics and ideally video skills.
It's a high-pressure role, but for the right candidate, working on a very busy, vibrant and fun title, and as part of a big and award-winning team of journalists, it offers huge job satisfaction as well as a competitive salary and other benefits.
The Grocer is the flagship of William Reed, a family-owned publishing, events and market research business, whose interests include operations in the UK, France, the US and Singapore.
We’re based near Crawley, 30 minutes from Brighton and 10 mins from Gatwick and its connections to Victoria, London Bridge, and the world (recent foreign travel assignments have included coffee growers in Colombia, a trip to Avery Island in Louisiana, Caribbean rum production and awards judging in Paris).
Interested? Write a letter for the attention of the editor, telling us why you’re right for the job, add your CV and some samples of your finest work, and email it to email@example.com
