Job Description

RT UK is looking for a full-time Assistant News Editor to join its talented team in central London. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work on rolling news, helping to uncover hidden stories and presenting alternative perspectives on mainstream news.

RT UK is the British sister channel of RT International, beaming into homes across the United Kingdom with news and content specifically tailored to a UK audience. We seek to tell untold stories, report on the underreported and dig out the content so often missed by the mainstream media. We pride ourselves on our fresh approach to news delivery – a fast-paced but in-depth view into the world of UK news.

Main responsibilities:

- Having the latest, most up-to-date news in the running order at all times
- Constant awareness of any breaking/developing stories across all MSM and RT networks
- Story is told in the most accessible way for the viewer
- All video/content produced and edited to the highest standard
- All stories are told in the in the most creative way possible
- Stories are teased and ‘advertised’ as best as possible via footage, CGs, headlines/teasers, text
- Correspondent packages written/edited/produced to the highest standards; told in an engaging way; all sides represented
- Being aware of and across all new and existing video
- Being across the news not just throughout the shift, but through the morning, and on any days off
- Having a broad understanding of RT’s editorial policy, as well as the RT UK editorial policy
- Keeping the team on time and on task and ensuring a friendly newsroom atmosphere
- Ensuring all on-screen text is accurate and grammatically correct
- Monitoring incoming news and video, alerting others of updates and breaking news
- Producing a visually creative and factually accurate news broadcast for our audiences across the UK

Requirements:

- A keen awareness of the RT brand
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a TV newsroom
- Strong knowledge of UK media law and Ofcom guidelines
- Strong leadership skills; previous experience of leading a team is an asset
- Excellent spelling and grammar skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to learn new workflow processes and adapt to changes
- Basic video editing skills are an asset
