Cambridge Spark offers data apprenticeships and data academies tailored to the needs and challenges of your business.

One size doesn’t fit all, so we’ve developed a modularised curriculum of courses and programmes from Level 3 to Level 7 that focus on improving data skills and capabilities.

Whether you are developing your data literacy skills or you want to broaden your existing analytics and data science skills because you work with data on a regular basis, there’s a programme for everyone.

Level 3 Data-Driven Journalism Apprenticeship
‘Equipping journalism professionals with essential data literacy & analysis skills’

About the Apprenticeship

Our Data-Driven Journalism programme equips journalism professionals with essential, practical data literacy and analysis skills in a structured instructor-led programme. Delivered in partnership with Cardiff University School of Journalism, the programme will benefit anyone who wants to use data tools and techniques to create more impactful stories and be more productive day-to-day.

For journalists employed in England, the programme can be funded using the Apprenticeship Levy and offers a government-recognised qualification in data, as part of the world’s first Data-Driven Journalism Apprenticeship.

Our unique flexible online learning, our monthly ‘Industry Expert Insights’ speaker series and our inspiring, specialist professional trainers are here to empower you to develop a strong understanding of the value and opportunities enabled through the smart use of data in your role and your news organisation. For the apprenticeship, you’ll spend 20% of your working hours learning and applying new skills & knowledge.

Who it is for:

  • Qualified and experienced Journalists, Senior Journalists, Correspondents, News Researchers who are users of data and statistics that contribute to news production but who do not yet have the skills or experience to effectively and efficiently source, collate, analyse, visualise and communicate using data.
  • Journalists with some basic spreadsheet knowledge who desire an opportunity to create more value from the data they work with.

Learner Outcomes:

  • Create stories and journalism underpinned by data-driven insights.
  • Work confidently with qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Leverage widely used tools such as Excel and Power BI to analyse, visualise and interpret data.
  • Understand how to find, work with, derive insights and communicate using Data.

Organisation Outcomes:

Cambridge Spark’s Data Driven Journalism programme will equip journalists with the skills and knowledge they need to create visual and insightful data-led news content for all forms of media, including TV, Radio and online.

Journalists who understand the value and opportunities of data to news organisations of all sizes will learn digital analysis techniques and create impactful news stories from data insights.

By combining traditional news-gathering with the ability to prepare, format and integrate news data, journalists will build narrative around the data, validate the data and ensure data quality and consistency to the highest levels expected of data journalism.

Journalists will also learn how to source, store and manage news data securely, compliantly and ethically.

Level 3 Data Citizen Apprenticeship

About the Apprenticeship

Cambridge Spark’s Data Citizen Apprenticeship teaches your workforce the core concepts, skills and tools all professionals need to be data-driven and independent in their work.

  • Teams working with spreadsheets who want to create more value from data and improve productivity
  • Employees looking to build confidence and technical skills to work with data effectively
  • Employees that want to progress into more technical, data-driven roles

  • Efficiently prepare and analyse data

Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship

About the Apprenticeship

Cambridge Spark’s Data Analyst Apprenticeship will equip learners with the technical skill set to empower them to extract, manipulate and visualise data, enabling organisations to answer complex questions and drive strategic value.

Who it is for:

  • Data-driven departments and teams looking to add more strategic value, for example business intelligence, finance, marketing, sales, or supply chain
  • Employees looking to automate the manual collation and processing of data
  • Employees wanting to future-proof their skill set by learning in-demand, industry-relevant skills

Learner Outcomes:

  • Use Python programming and data analysis tools such as Pandas and Numpy to create insights that can drive commercial decision-making
  • Work with different data formats, types and databases such as SQL
  • Use data visualisation to summarise, present and make recommendations from the results of data analysis
  • Test and prototype code in a production environment, follow industry best practices and use collaborative workflows

Organisation Outcomes:

  • Make commercial decisions informed by impactful data analysis

Level 7 AI and Data Science Apprenticeship

About the Apprenticeship

Cambridge Spark’s Data Scientist Apprenticeship will equip employees with an advanced skill set to discover and devise new data-driven AI solutions, automate and optimise business processes, and support, augment and enhance human decision-making.

Who it is for:

  • Teams already using Python to work with complex datasets on a regular basis
  • Employees looking to apply the latest cutting-edge Data Science and AI tools in their work

Learner Outcomes:

  • Identify and devise data-driven AI solutions to address business opportunities
  • Automate and optimise business processes with data science
  • Provide technical authority and insights for the business on data science and AI that are relevant to business goals

Organisation Outcomes:

  • Build capability to enable and deploy AI across the organisation
  • Drive business growth with AI solutions to address business opportunities
  • Reduce costs through automating and optimising manual processes

EDUKATE.AI is our learning platform designed for data science education. EDUKATE.AI provides real-world simulated assignments and gives learners immediate and personalised feedback on their code.

Data mentor – An experienced data mentor helps learners scope and deliver work-based projects, helping bridge the gap between learning and application to generate a return on investment.

Career coach – A coach supports the career and personal development of our learners through 1:1 coaching sessions, as well as quarterly tripartite reviews with line managers.

Expert Faculty – Our world-class Faculty of experienced data professionals and academics from leading universities deliver support to our learners through workshops and 1:1 support on queries.

Live expert-led lectures – Our learners join online workshops delivered by our expert Faculty, with the support of a tutor for 1:1 questions in real-time. Learners can access recordings through EDUKATE.AI.

Peer and Expert Community – Learners benefit from a peer network that provides support and technical help. Learners also benefit from our network of experts, with monthly guest lectures from different industries.
