Wimbledon digital title serves up first print edition to tennis fans

A local digital title has capitalised on the Wimbledon tennis tournament by going into print.

Hyperlocal publication The Wimble, which covers the South London suburb, launched a print edition to coincide with the Wimbledon Championships.

The title, which sends email newsletters via Substack to 6,000 subscribers, had an initial print run of 20,000 copies distributed copies across Wimbledon.

The Wimble is run by freelance journalist Zak Asgard, who also writes for publications including The Times.

He said: “The Wimble only launched last year, so the support from the local community has been incredible to see.

“The print edition has been in the works since our very first newsletter, and to see it being read and enjoyed by so many residents and visitors is a dream come true.

“I just hope that we can get it into the hands of as many people as possible.”

Independent publisher Mill Media helped The Wimble with the project.

Joshi Herrmann, founder of Mill Media, said: “We’ve loved working with The Wimble to create this hyperlocal newsletter.

“Zak and the team have done an amazing job of connecting with the local community – he gets loads of reader emails and tips every week, and people often tell him how much more connected to their local area the newsletter makes them feel.

“Distributing 20,000 editions of a print edition is a very cool moment for team, and a great addition to hyperlocal media in London.”
