He said: “I read the Bromsgrove Advertiser every Wednesday – just as I know thousands of my constituents do each week.

“It keeps us all up-to-date with what is going on in our wonderful town and surrounding villages.

“And just as important is that the Advertiser holds me to account as your MP – a vital function in our democracy.

“Happy 165th anniversary to the Bromsgrove Advertiser. Here’s to another 165 years.”

Councillor May, leader of Bromsgrove District Council, added:”Local journalism is crucial to ensuring our communities are informed and updated on important news and issues which affect their day to lives.

“Over the years the Advertiser has earned its place as the lifeblood of our District, holding local powers accountable, and gives a voice to people and stories that might otherwise go unheard.

“As communication channels change, the Advertiser moved with the times to ensure that residents still receive the news which is important to them.

“Congratulations on 165 years serving your readers”.
