Weekly’s special marks 150 years of rugby on patch

A weekly newspaper has run a special supplement to celebrate 150 years of rugby on its patch.

The Halifax Courier has marked the milestone for rugby league team Halifax Panthers, who were founded in 1873 as Halifax.

The eight-page pullout, published last week, was put together by Courier rugby league reporter Adam Cheshire and designer Michelle Lockwood.

Contributors also included Panthers chairman Dave Grayson.

Halifax 150

Dominic Brown, editor-in-chief for Courier owner National World’s Yorkshire Weeklies Group, told HTFP: “150 years of rugby league in Halifax is a fantastic milestone and we are delighted to celebrate this with a special souvenir supplement in this week’s Courier.

“Rugby league has been, and continues to be, a key part of the town’s life. From Challenge Cup triumphs to Grand Final victories, there have been many highlights to reflect on over the years, and we hope our readers enjoy this nostalgic trip down memory lane.

“Thanks to our rugby league reporter Adam Cheshire and designer Michelle Lockwood for putting the supplement together, and thanks also to Halifax Panthers chairman Dave Grayson and all at the club for their support.

“The club have a lot of exciting things planned for their 150th anniversary year, and we wish them all the best for a successful season on and off the pitch.”
