Weekly runs ‘green’ stories on most pages for special edition

A weekly newspaper ran a “green” story on most of its pages as part of a bid to get more people talking about climate change.

The Camden New Journal ran stories on the issue on 22 out of 40 pages for its first edition of 2023.

The publication of the special edition comes after the New Journal and its sister weekly the Islington Tribune held their own climate change conference in November.

The event, dubbed the ‘North London COP, was organised in response to what the papers dubbed the “damp squib” of a COP26 summit.

Explaining the idea behind the edition, editor Richard Osley wrote: “This week, we kick off 2023 with a special feature which is becoming a New Year tradition – an edition to get minds focused on the climate emergency.

“North London is a melting pot of ideas on how to tackle the crisis – which, let’s not forget, we all have a stake in – and we can play a role in sharing these thoughts and perhaps joining some of the dots.

“We did that in November at our ‘North London COP’ and hope today’s issue, which has a ‘green’ story on nearly every page, can keep the debate rolling.

“Nobody can ignore the warning alarms anymore.”
