A senior editor who worked for four regional dailies before moving to the nationals has died suddenly aged 58.
Tributes have been paid to John Lee, who had been night editor at the Daily Mail since 2015.
John, pictured, had spent 28 years with the Mail in various roles across its production department.
According to the Mail, he came from a newspaper-owning family in Huddersfield and began his career on hometown daily the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
John went on to work for the Bradford Telegraph & Argus, the Brighton Argus and the Manchester Evening News before joining the Mail.
Mail editor Ted Verity said: “John was an exceptionally talented journalist who brought huge flair and his own inimitable personality to everything he did. He will be greatly missed.’
John is survived by wife Louise, an academic, and daughter Georgina, who is herself a journalist with Channel 4 News.
