Reporters allowed to enter press photography award for the first time

Journalists will compete across 15 categories for an annual awards scheme celebrating the best of a county’s media.

Entries are now being welcomed for the 2023 Kent Press & Broadcast Awards, which are now in their ninth year.

Among the changes to this year’s awards is the replacement of the Kent Photographer of the Year category with Kent Image of the Year, reflecting the fact that many news photographs are now taken by reporters while out on jobs.

Entries will be accepted in the category as long as the photo has been published in print or online.

Rachel Knight, director at PR agency and awards organiser Maxim, said: “In this constantly connected world where news is instantaneous, it’s easy to overlook the importance of the local journalist, who keeps their eyes and ears on the ground and highlights the important stories from our area, reminding us the news in our road or town is just as important as that taking place elsewhere in the world.

“It’s the county’s journalists who hold local councils and businesses to account and champion the cause of individuals, and it is these journalists and their dedication to their community who we are celebrating in these awards.”

Journalists have until 5pm on Friday 5 May 2023 to enter and finalists will be announced towards the end of June.

The winners will be honoured at a cereomony at Kent County Cricket Club, in Canterbury, on Friday 14 July. More information can be found here.
