Precious jewellery returned to owner thanks to weekly

A woman has been reunited with precious jewellery – including her wedding ring – thanks to a weekly newspaper.

Julie Brinton feared the ring, as well as a pair of silver earrings, has been lost for good after mislaying a small pink jewellery bag containing them while she was taking them out to be repaired.

Mr Brinton subsequently wrote to the Advertiser in the hope an appeal would bring the items back to her.

A fellow reader noticed the letter and got in contact to say she had discovered the bag.

Mrs Brinton, pictured with her earrings, told the Advertiser: “When I got to the jeweller I couldn’t find the items in my bag.

“I decided to write a letter to the Romsey Advertiser and explained what had happened.

“Very luckily for me someone found the little jewellery bag and read the letter in the paper.

“I have now been reunited with the ring and the earrings. Many thanks to the lovely lady who found my ring.”

Advertiser editor Kimberley Barber told HTFP: “I was so delighted to receive a message from one of our long-standing readers a few days after publishing Mrs Brinton’s letter to say she had found the missing bag.

“It was heart-warming to put them in touch, and then to hear Mrs Brinton had been reunited with her precious jewellery.

“This proves that local newspapers are still a great way of reaching the community.

“Recent research has found that local newspapers like the Romsey Advertiser reach 80 per cent of people in their communities. This is a really lovely example of that in action.”
