New city title expands as reporter joins from sister weekly

George BuksmannA new city news website has expanded its team with the recruitment of an additional journalist.

George Buksmann has announced he is leaving the Scarborough News to join the weekly newspaper’s National World sister website Nottingham World.

Nottingham World launched in March, with editorial Caroline Barry serving as its sole editorial member of staff.

Nottingham native George, pictured, announced his move in a Twitter thread on Sunday.

He wrote: “My time at the Scarborough News is coming to an end. I’m pleased to say that I will shortly be joining Nottingham World to start a fresh challenge and I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s been a unique way to begin a career in the middle of Covid lockdowns, but this has blossomed into 46 front page splashes across two-and-a-half years.

“From the Olympics, the death of the Queen and Prince Philip, the Coronation, nationally important Roman ruins… and the arrival of a walrus, there aren’t many topics that haven’t cropped up in Scarborough.

“I’m proud of what I’ve written and what I’ve learnt alongside a team of wonderful colleagues.”

Speaking to HTFP, he added: “It’s bittersweet to be leaving the Scarborough News, but the time felt right to seek a fresh challenge and I’m really pleased to begin a new chapter covering the city I grew up in.

“In a varied role, I’ve had the opportunity to report on everything from the discovery of nationally important Roman ruins to the surprise arrival of a walrus, supported by a team of wonderful colleagues.

“I wish everyone in Scarborough and the wider North Yorkshire team the best of luck and I know they will continue to flourish.”
