Daily unveils four new recruits as reporter quits for ‘dream job’

Albert Tait 2023A regional daily has unveiled four new reporters after one of its journalists left to take up her “dream job”.

The Oxford Mail has announced the recruitment drive following what its editor Andrew Colley has called a “strong 2022″.

Among the new recruits is Albert Tait, pictured, who has joined from the Henley Standard after being taken on there under the Community News Project funded by Facebook owner Meta.

Digital reporter Robert Folker and politics reporter Ed Halford have moved to the Mail from Newsquest sister titles the Bucks Free Press and News Shopper respectively.

Oxfordshire native Olivia Christie completes the line-up of new recruits after completing her NCTJ training at News Associates.

Their recruitment comes as Mail reporter Georgia Harland, like Albert a former Henley Standard reporter, leaves the Oxford daily and its Herald series sister weeklies to become Newsquest’s court and crime reporter for Berkshire and Buckinghamshire – a role she described on Twitter as a “dream job”.

Both Albert, who came into journalism after working as a supermarket delivery driver, and Georgia were recently shortlisted for honours ahead of the NCTJ Awards for Excellence.

Paying tribute to Georgia, Andrew wrote on the social media site: “One of the best in the business, you’ve been a star at the Mail and Herald.

“We’re sorry to see you go, but know you’ll smash it in your dream job and I can’t wait to see what you achieve. You’ve got a very bright future ahead of you and we’re incredibly proud.”

Unveiling the new recruits at the Mail, he added: “Delighted to introduce four new reporters to the Oxford Mail as we look to build on a strong 2022 and offer more for our growing audience.

“Online, January was our most-read month in a year and I’m excited to see what we can deliver with a bigger team moving forward.”
