Daily offers unique subscription deal to mark 240th anniversary

A daily newspaper has run a unique subscription offer for 240 readers to mark each year it has been in print.

Glasgow-based daily The Herald has marked its 240th anniversary, having first launched on 27 January 1783.

To celebrate the occasion, The Herald offered a 12-month digital subscription deal, usually worth £62.99, for £24.

The offer was opened to the first 240 readers to subscribe and closes today.

In a message to readers, editor Catherin Salmond said: “This year, we will be looking back a great deal.

“We will reflect on the major news events our teams have covered since 1783. We will talk to former colleagues, delve into our archives and reflect on Scotland’s past and our place in the fabric of its society.

“But we will also be looking ahead and continue to this tradition of exceptional journalism across a range of digital and social platforms and in print.

“Your support as readers is vital and, to mark the anniversary we are offering our best subscription deal to date and full access for 12 months for £24.”
