BBC reporter takes regional crown at British Sports Journalism Awards

Dafydd PritchardA BBC journalist has taken the top regional honour at a national awards celebrating sports reporting.

Dafydd Pritchard, who covers the Welsh football and rugby teams for BBC Sport Wales, has been named Regional Sports Journalist of the Year at British Sports Journalism Awards.

Dafydd, pictured, a former sports reporter at the South Wales Evening Post, had won silver in the category last year.

In claiming the honour he beat eight-time winner Jon Colman, of Carlisle’s News & Star, who won the title in 2022.

Jon was awarded silver in the category this year, with the Sunderland Echo’s Phil Smith claiming bronze.

Also nominated were Portsmouth News colleagues Neil Allen and Jordan Cross, as well as Ciaran Kelly, who writes for Newcastle dailies The Journal and The Chronicle.

The winners at the awards, organised by the Sports Journalists’ Association, received their prizes at a ceremony on Monday.
