Weekly runs front page ‘comic strip’ as Marvel prepares to film on patch

A weekly newspaper ran a comic strip-style front page after revealing a new superhero series is being filmed on its patch.

The Halifax Courier reported a new six-part television series from Marvel Studios, called Secret Invasion, is set to be filmed at the Yorkshire town’s Piece Hall.

The revelation prompted the Courier to celebrate a recent trend for filiminf on its patch, with the third series of BBC’s Happy Valley set to be filmed locally.

The story was covered by reporter Sarah Fitton, while the front page was given what editor Chris Lever described as “the very eye-catching comic strip treatment” by JPIMedia designer Michelle Lockwood.

Chris told HTFP: “For several years now Halifax has been in the TV spotlight with dramas including Gentleman Jack, Last Tango in Halifax, and Ackley Bridge set and filmed in the area.

“We’d previously reported a long awaited third series of BBC’s Happy Valley was about to start filming here and managed to grab photos of Sarah Lancashire, reprising her role of Sgt Catherine Cawood, and a production crew on a street in Halifax earlier this week.

“But Calderdale’s self-styled ‘Callywood’ tag took a real Hollywood twist as speculation mounted that the Disney+ latest Marvel project Secret Invasion, a mini-series rumoured to be starring the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Coleman and Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, was going to be filming at the town’s Piece Hall, an 18th century former cloth trading hall.”

“It’s very different to our usual style but Michelle’s ‘marvellous’ design suited this week’s splash article perfectly.Great team work from our very own superheroes.”
